Over the years Xiaomi has earned a prominent place in the smartphone market globally, with its top of the Android range that now represent a reference point for a large part of users.

Xiaomi has always offered software customization of Android with its MIUI . Together with MIUI, the Chinese company provides several apps and services pre-installed on its smartphones, such as the Temi app dedicated to personalization.

Like all apps officially available for Android devices, Xiaomi’s Themes app is also subject to the controls of Play Protect , the security service developed by Google to monitor the apps installed on Android devices, from a security point of view .

These controls seem to have caused some problems for Xiaomi users in recent days, even in Italy. According to what was reported on our Facebook group , Play Protect would have blocked the Xiaomi Themes app for security reasons, having cataloged it as harmful .

This makes the app unusable , precisely because it is inaccessible if it is blocked by Play Protect. Fortunately, someone managed to find a temporary solution : as Xiaomi would have suggested, just delete the data related to the app to make it usable again.

To delete the app data, just go to the system settings , access the App section and look for the Memory item within the app in question. The deletion of data involves the reset of the customizations applied to the app during its use.

Clearly Xiaomi’s Themes app shouldn’t pose a security hazard . Play Protect categorizes it as malicious because, probably, not all the security standards required by Google are met.

We therefore expect the solution to be resolved definitively with an update of the Themes app. Please let us know if you have also encountered the problem described above.
